Welcome to K9 Mediation.

To our visitors:
I am contacted on a daily basis by frustrated dog owners. Some of them can't get their dog to calm down. Some of them can't get their dog to stop jumping on company, digging in the yard, destroying their furniture and carpet or play biting their children. All of them have one thing in common- they need help. Unfortunately, dogs do not come with 'easy to read manuals' or 'pre programming for your convenience.' Most of them need a lot more work that their owners ever even realize, leading to thousands of dogs being turned in to shelters and rescue groups across the country each year. Dogs are often euthanized because they cannot find a home due to serious behavior issues. There are owners who can't fathom getting rid of their precious puppy, but what would you do if you were at the end of your rope? Obviously the best course of action is to prevent these behaviors by doing your research on the breed and starting to train your dog early, but some people don't realize that until it's too late and most are not afforded the luxury since they rescued their dog. However, as the saying goes, better late than never! Dogs CAN be trained at ANY AGE! Their brains are functioning sufficiently enough to begin learning obedience commands at 7 weeks old. They learn things from their mothers and siblings even earlier than that. It seems unbelievable, doesn't it? On the other end of the spectrum, I've trained dogs that were 10+ years old, so don't give up, there's always hope for a misguided pup.

Did you know that the last thing most dogs do before they bite someone is wag their tail?
Dogs wag their tail for many different reasons, including excitement, contentment, and nervousness.  It pays to know how to tell the difference.  Take a look at the dog above.  Looks pretty happy, doesn't he?  Now, look at him again in the picture below, and notice he's still wagging his tail.  This type of behavior change can happen within a matter of seconds.
